World Voyage Planner

Jimmy and Ivan Cornell

Adlard Coles Nautical

£45

An integral part of the Cornell suite of books for long-distance cruising, this second edition of the planner takes account of climate change and also anxieties concerning ocean security. It’s brilliantly laid out, presenting ocean options as clearly as the London Underground map, thus offering a framework for hundreds of individual variations and potential plan-Bs. Pilot charts showing prevailing winds and currents for the recommended months for each voyage should be invaluable and there’s interesting advice on trying a ‘virtual voyage’. While armchair sailors can travel where they will, Cornell includes comparative data of actual cruising yachts visiting key destinations in 2015. He finds a shift in cruising patterns and some overall reduction in numbers. A book to pore over.
