Nicola and her husband John began discussing a round-the-world cruise on their second date. He proposed after a day’s sailing in November; they married in May and set out in July. Organising two such events almost concurrently offers immediate testimony to their planning skills. (Placing their wedding list at a chandlery was especially shrewd.) Many thousands of miles and two children later Nicola wrote the book she might have wanted at the time. This is the second, updated, edition. Her main focus is Caribbean and Atlantic cruising, though other areas and other cruisers’ experience are included together with useful reference to rally organisations and more detailed local guides.
