Knox-Johnston on Seamanship and Seafaring

This is a compilation of articles originally published in Yachting World. Every one is valuable in its own right, whether offering practical advice on throwing a heaving line or sharing reminiscences of sailing Seabird dinghies in Bombay. Cover to cover reading, however, is a bitty experience as little has been done to set the articles in context. I would have liked publication dates, for instance. It’s a pity as these are insights into fifty years of inconceivable change during which, as Sir Robin points out, the time for solo sailing around the world has reduced from 312 days to just 42 and, as the arctic waters open, even the concept of a circumnavigation is being redefined.
