Two new titles and one revised edition in the Fernhurst ‘Practical Companion’ series, splash-proof and spiral-bound. There are sixteen titles in this series, almost certainly something for anyone in the boating world. My instant pick was the Vincents’ GRP Repair Companion. Their staged approach to small repairs seemed absolutely clear and do-able and I especially liked their advice to consider buying expensive tools in company with other boat owners. They also offer courses. The highly-illustrated, clearly-labelled layout of the Diesel Companion is confidence building – a very good example of this type of publication. The Passage Planning Companion is, perhaps necessarily, wordier but Alistair Buchan is always a reliable guide.
