Astro Navigation from Home

Andrew Johnson

Self-Published

£10.00

This is an intriguing, self-published book which I am not qualified to assess. Five years ago, Andy Johnson, author of The Boat Electrics Bible (Adlard Coles), devised a means of enabling sailors to learn and practice their celestial navigation skills from home, by using planetarium Apps such as Winstars and Stellarium as ‘sextant simulators’. This allows potential navigators to take their sights as if they were at sea. Processing the sight measurements through to calculating and plotting the position is then explained as in a real situation. The almanac and a full set of tables are available along with additional worked examples.

If this appeals as a pastime for winter evenings, do investigate the author’s website astronavfromhome.co.uk, or contact him from there.
