The Complete Yachtmaster (11th edition)

Probably most of us should reread The Complete Yachtmaster every year anyway. While the most important thing is to have seamanlike practice embedded in one’s soul, yet words are needed to make practical issues clear to others, and the pace of technical development can too easily introduce confusion. This new edition includes a valuable chapter on collision avoidance in poor visibility, particularly operator choices in modern digital radar sets. Cunliffe’s strength, always, is his emphasis on sailing but he does have his blind spots.
Although this is aimed at ‘the modern yacht skipper’, there’s nothing here for those who sail multihulls or any discussion of styles of leadership other than by command. His writing style remains a delight.
