If you (like me) are a recent convert to the use of soft Dyneema shackles – either to reduce weight or because you have been biffed once too often by the metal version -- you may wonder how these game-changer fastenings are made. Or you may be looking at a complex 8- or 12-strand rope and quailing at the prospect of adapting your rudimentary splicing or whipping skills. This is the book you need. There are so many applications for improved skills, such as splicing anchor rode to chain, reeving new halyards, creating continuous loops. Its presentation is beautifully clear as is information about different rope constructions. I would have welcomed better initial instruction in the choice of splicing tools and tapes.
