Francis Hawkins has spent much of his sailing life exploring the Pacific – and there is so much to explore: twice the size of the Atlantic, 20,000 islands, an area greater than all earth’s land masses combined. ‘It takes a village’ to begin to do justice to such a subject, as he says. Almost half the book is devoted to preparation, the rest to itineraries and passage-planning, from mainland Chille to the Aleutians and Alaska.
