Graham Cox was born in 1952 and grew up in Durban. As a young man, he wasn’t comfortable with himself or his life but developed a passion for cruising yachts and the people who sailed them. He loved their books too. This first volume of memoir recalls heroes and friends 1966-1980 and is especially valuable because its geographical perspective is not British. A wide variety of adventurers sailed into Durban then: Americans, Australians, New Zealanders, as well as Europeans. Graham longed to join them, and eventually succeeded, though it wasn’t easy.

He explores his own failings and limitations with an honesty and insight which gives distinction to this book.
