Harbours and their Masters

Between 2019 – 2023 Mark Ashley-Miller and his 34’ ketch Good Dog circumnavigated Britain and Ireland 2019 – 2023 in aid of the Seafarers’ Charity. They sailed 9,000 miles, visited 310 harbours, met 256 harbourmasters and raised £30,000 (so far). This book, like their voyage, is a testimony to Mark’s qualities of organisation, perpetual interest and energy.
His mini biographies and harbour descriptions are never dull. The harbour masters, young and old, male and female, are as diverse as the harbours they manage. Yet they are all impressive individuals, taking responsibility without fuss. Some manage large scale commercial ports with incessant ship movements– think Dover, Belfast or Milford Haven; others are embedded within historic communities such as Wells-next-to-the-Sea or Clovelly.
I found it fascinating.
