Waldringfield Sailing Club in Suffolk is one of the many UK clubs currently celebrating centenaries. The post-WW1 1920s are often considered years of national exhaustion, personal grief and hardship. Yet some people found they had a little more leisure and looked for fun. Sailing began to include sociable, small boat activities. An initial gathering of a dozen people, driven by the self-help ethos to organise a series of 6-8 races a season, has developed into a club of 800+ members, running more than 500 starts a year, competitive in national and international events while remaining determinedly parochial.

Deaves’s handsome 450-page book includes over 1000 photographs and is a tribute to careful record-keeping as well as local pride.
