Two Farewells: In Memory of Antony Hichens and Heidi Carhart
On Friday April 10th Golden Duck will be saying goodbye to two people who have been particularly important to us. The first is Antony Hichens, senior trustee of the Coastal Forces Heritage Trust, whose generosity in lending the original typescript of his father Robert Hichens’ wartime memoir We Fought Them in Gunboats, made possible the de-censored edition which has proved so illuminating. Antony's support and encouragement was unwavering, including his participation in Tim Curtis's film about the making of the book. His funeral will take place in Herefordshire. Our condolences go to his daughter, Tamsin.
Heidi Carhart's contribution to Golden Duck is difficult to overstate. Not only did she work for some years helping to set up filing systems and keep GD's chaotic paperwork in order, but aspects of her excruciatingly painful relationship with social services etc provided an essential (if regrettable) trigger for The Salt-Stained Book and A Ravelled Flag. Heidi was a dear personal friend and will be much missed. Her funeral in Yorkshire will also take place on Friday. Our deepest sympathy to her mother Aidete and son Olly.
