The Sea Bird and A Century of Sailing

I’ve been slow updating the Golden Duck inventory but am pleased to announce two new books added to our shop. The Sea Bird is Rozelle Raynes memoir of sailing post ww2 until her happy second marriage to Dr Dick Raynes in 1965. It was first published in 1979 and we feel it’s been undeservedly forgotten ‘ to revisit it is like the sun coming out on a grey day’, as Claudia Myatt writes in her foreword. The Sea Bird is the sequel to Maid Matelot and is the third in our Lionesses of the Sea series.

We’ve also added A Century of Sailing, Robert Deaves’s impressively researched and illustrated history of Waldringfield Sailing Club 1921-2021. It’s both the individual history of a small, successful Suffolk club and also an example of one of the many volunteer founded and run clubs that developed from the post WW1 period onwards, giving delight to several generations of local families.
