A Ditty Locker for the Yachtsmen Volunteers
Announcing a new page for this site.
IN an effort to supplement the information in Uncommon Courage and to offer other people a chance to share their information and stories of their relatives, we’re setting up a ‘Ditty Locker’ blog page. The title comes courtesy of serving RN Officer Chris O’Flaherty (twitter handle @chrisonaship) who is also an author with a particular interest in the contribution the volunteers made to Naval thinking. I was fascinated to hear him use the word ‘dits’ quite naturally in conversation as a nautical term for an anecdote. Ditty bags are used for carrying small items when travelling and were routinely part of a sailors equipment, often holding a needle and thread as well as personal possessions. A ‘ditty locker’ woudl seem to offer a little more space…
Thanks Chris O’Flaherty.
Here’s a fuller explanation for the page.
I’m hoping to upload something new each week but it will be VERY much more interesting if some of teh contributions come from others. Please email julia@golden-duck.co.uk if you’ve something RNVR-related to add.
